TRIBUTE TO GERSHWIN

For the Georges Gershwin centenary in 1998, Barbara Hendricks and the Monty Alexander Jazz Trio got together for a tribute to the great American composer. But what happens when an opera singer decides to tackle a jazz repertoire. Our cameras were present at rehearsals to record the fascinating encounter between these two worlds, brought together by some of Gershwin’s most famous songs. In this camera musical exchange, the film provides the audiences with a genuine close-up of the creative process and an exclusive behind the scenes look at their work. The rehearsal sessions are complemented with interviews that provide an overview of the work in progress and an understanding of the dynamics at work between Barbara Hendricks and the Trio.
