Synopsis

As inquisitive as Montesquieu’s Persan, falsely naïve, as Voltaire’s Candid, an outside observer explores the inside of French secularity. Beyond declarations of principle, he scans closely the way the French live, today, everyday, a hundred years after its adoption, their sacro-saint separation of State and Church law. With the same distance than a philosophical fable, though aiming for the precision of a ethnological study, this film means to celebrate in its own way a centenary which rakes up a very old debate whose issues, in this day and age, are made very present by Islam and the Europena construction.
