A film about a garden – the largest and most prestigious garden in the world, that of the Palace of Versailles. The designer of the Versailles Gardens was André Le Nôtre, the most brilliant gardener of his time. It was he who conceived the flower beds, who placed the pools and fountains and surprises. Yet from its very inception, it was Louis XIV, the absolute monarch, who imprinted the site with his indelible mark. Versailles, the unparalleled masterpiece of refinement and genius, embodies more than any other place the splendor of a reign and the glory of its sovereign. This film hopes to unveil the manifol aspects of this work of sensual and politiacl seduction, and to sho the inflexible will of an all -powerful king, who was convinced he could rule a people through the visibility of his own person in a setting of sublime majesty, by staging for their benefit the grandeur of a monarch.
