LEILA, Born in France
Leila was born in France of Algerian parents. Until the age of 12 there was nothing to mark her out from any other children. But when she has her first period all the little things which made her life worth living and which she had believed to be entirely innocent suddenly become loaded with taboos. No more going out. No more friends. No more phone calls. Little by little Leila begins leading double life. When she’s at home she plays at being “an Algerian girl”, in order to keep her parents’ confidence. One day, Leila, at nineteen, falls hopelessly in love with Manuel, a young doctor from suburbs. Manuel loves Leila too/ From this point on things are going to getseriously complicated.
