THE PAPUAN WAR SHIELD MEMORIES
These clan’s war shields are painted pieces with an enormous visual impact,
which entail more than merely arr expression, but also a magical significance linked to the tribe’s ancestors. We follow the steps of an art merchant, Chris Boylan, in Papua New Guinea’s high-lands to meet Kamanos and the Nipas, tribes from which he plans to bargain some war shields to resell in museums around the world.
