Posterity has inherited an image of the denazification orchestrated by the Allies and continued by the Germans after World War II as having been remarkably successful. The process is believed to have lastingly extracted German society from the throes of fascism, totalitarianism and authoritarianism, to the point that Germany has become a model of tolerance and democracy.
